Summer.....ahhhhh.
It's been a very trying Spring. I'm glad to get some sunshine and start healing again. My Uncle Billy passed away in April after a lengthy stay in a nursing home. He was my hero. He was an award winning drag racer and a pioneer for the Top Alcohol dragster and funny car category.
We had a funny love hate relationship, but in a strange way, I felt he was one of the few people on this earth who understood me. He was in a major crash in Rockingham a few years ago, when his engine blew and his car crashed. When I was a few days old, he took me from my mom and took me down to his shop to show me off to his racing buddies. I always looked up to him because he was so cool; he did what he loved to do and that inspired me in so many ways. He always teased me for not singing Country music, and I teased him for not racing drag boats. The truth was, we were following our own path. Don't get me wrong, he was faaaar from perfect, but we had some pretty fun times. Especially when Mom and I would go to stay with him and my Aunt in LA. I fondly remember hanging out in the pits at different races in Seattle and Pomona and Bakersfield, and getting to sit in his car when it was being worked on.
I also remember how he could push my buttons and we could fight like cats and dogs. But we always made up. Life is too short to fight about stupid things and hold a grudge. There will always be a special place in my heart for him. I am just glad he can finally find some peace now.
